POLICE HEAD QUARTERS
For the development and advancement of civilization and culture, the establishment of rule of law is a must. It is the Police, which enforces the law and order in the society and thus help protect the pace of development.
The Police Head Quarters was established in the year 1965. It was then headed by an Inspector General of Police. The first Inspector General of Police was Sri R.N. Sheopoory, IPS from 1965 to 1967. On 2nd February 1987, Sri H.C. Jatav, IPS joined as the first Director General of Police, Tripura.
The State is divided into 4 Police Districts comprising 22 Police sub-divisions, 65 Police Stations and 37 Police Out Posts. The organisation as of now have
1 Director General of Police, 1 Additional Director General of Police, 6 Inspector Generals of Police, 4 DIGsP and Superintendents / Commandants of various units. There are 12 Battalions of Tripura State Rifles of which 9 are India Reserve Battalions.
SRI KISHORE JHA, IPS THE ADDITIONAL DIRECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, TRIPURA. Sri KISHORE JHA, IPS was allotted the Tripura part of the Manipur-Tripura cadre and joined the State in 1984 on completion of his basic training at the National Police Academy (NPA), Hyderabad. He was posted as SDPO, Khowai, Additional S.P (South) and Commandant, TAP 2nd Bn., before his posting as SP, North. Following this he did a short strint in the Special Branch before proceeding on central deputation. Sri Jha remained on central deputation from 1989 to 1998 in the National Crime Records Bureau and the Cabinet Secretariat. On his return from Central deputation he was posted as DIG (Communication) and subsequently, as DIG (CID) & Intelligence. He was promoted as Inspector General of Police in the year 2000 and continued as Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) supervising the Special Branch, CID and other units. Shri Jha proceeded on his second Central deputation in 2002. During his deputation to the Central Secretariat Shri Jha occupied various posts at Delhi in the Cabinet Secretariat, on the western front and subsequently, did a foreign assignment. He returned to the Cadre in May, 2011. Sri Jha has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Services and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services. SHRI K NAGARAJ, IPS THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (L&O) Shri K. Nagaraj joined the Indian Police Service in 1983 and was allotted to Tripura. After initial training, he joined as SDPO, Khowai during August, 1985. He later served as Addl. SP(Rural), West, SP(North) and Commandant IInd TAP Bn. From March, 1989 to June, 1991 he proceeded on deputation to the Government of Andhra Pradesh where he served as SP(Warangal District), a strong hold of Maoists, as well as SP(CID). During the years 1991-1995, he served as Principal, Central Detective School, Hyderabad and imparted training in scientific methods in investigation. On promotion as DIG, he worked as DIG(AP & Ops), DIG( Northern Range) and DIG, Tripura Range. In February, 2001, he proceeded on central deputation and joined the CRPF wherein, apart from his regular duties, he managed a CRPF Public School and 100 Bed Base Hospital at Hyderabad. In 2006, he returned to the cadre and was posted as IGP(AP & Ops) on promotion. Since February, 2010, he is functioning as IGP(Law & Order), Tripura. Shri Nagaraj has Post Graduate Degrees in Business Administration and English Literature. He is also a graduate in Law. SHRI KULDEEP KUMAR, IPS THE JOINT COMMANDANT GENERAL (HOME GUARDS) Shri Kuldeep Kumar joined the IPS in 1985 and was allotted to Tripura part of the Manipur-Tripura cadre. He held the posts of SDPO, Sonamura, Addl. SP (North), AIG (OPS), AIG (HQ) and SP (EB) before proceeding on Central deputation to the Intelligence Bureau in 1992. On return from Central deputation he functioned as DIG (Armed Police) from July 2000 - 2003. During his second Central deputation in CISF from July 2003 - 2008, he was posted at the Force HQs and also served in Assam. On return to the State, Shri Kumar was posted as Director, Fire Service from August 2008 to May 2009 and is currently holding the charge of JCG(HGs). He is recipient of President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2002) and Australia Leadership Awards (2009). Shri Kumar has postgraduate degrees in English Literature, Security and Organizational Risk Management (UK) and has recently submitted his thesis for award of Masters (Research) in Politics (Australia). He also attended a 12 weeks training programme in the FBI National Academy, Quantico, USA (1998). SHRI V.S. YADAV, IPS THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (ADMN) Shri V.S.Yadav, IPS joined the Indian Police Service in the M.T.Cadre in 1987. He held the charge of SDPO, Kanchanpur, Kamalpur, Belonia and HeadQuarter Sub-Division of West District, Agartala. On promotion, he was posted as SP (MTF) & SP (EB). He was posted as District SP, North Tripura in 1992. He held charge of security of Raj Bhawan, Chief Minister and Civil Secretariat of Tripura. He has worked as Chairman, Special Narcotics Cell, Tripura in 1993-94. He served in Govt. of India, Central Bureau of Investigation from August, 1994 to August, 2001. On return from the Central deputation he was posted as DIGP (HG) & DIGP, Armed Police (Operations-1). During his 2nd Central deputation he was posted in National Crime Records Bureau and National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science from September, 2003 to September, 2010. On return to cadre in September, 2010 he has been posted as Inspector General of Police (Administration) in Tripura Police. He has been awarded the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day, 2004 and President's Police Medal for Distinguish Service on the occasion of Independence Day, 2011. SHRI BISHNU KISHORE DEB BARMA, IPS, THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (INT) Shri B. K. Debbarma, TPS Gr.-I was appointed as IPS (SPS) in the Manipur-Tripura cadre in the year 1992 with year of allotment of 1987. After joining as IPS he held the posts as SP (West), SP (CID), AIG (OPS) and thereafter promoted to the post as DIG of Police. As DIG he held the post of DIG (CID), DCG (HG), DIG (Welfare) DIG-AP (OPS-II) etc. He was promoted to the post of IGP on 25-4-2005 and posted successively as IGP (Admn), IGP (Int), IGP (TSR & Ops) etc. Shri Debbarma is presently working as IGP (Int) and additionally holding the charge of of IGP (TSR & OPS) He was awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the eve of Republic Day, 2007. SHRI RAJIV SINGH, IPS, THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, TRIPURA He joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) on 5th September 1993 and was allotted to the Tripura Part of the Manipur-Tripura Cadre. During his service in Tripura, he functioned as SDPO, Dharmanagar, Addl. Superintendent of Police (Urban) West District and District Superintendent of Police (West District). He subsequently went on deputation to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Yugoslavia and performed duties from April, 2000 to May, 2001. On his return to Tripura, he worked as AIG (HQrs). He was also posted as District Superintendent of Police (North District) during Assembly Elections, 2003. He went on Central Deputation to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2003 and functioned as in the following posts :- (1) S.P., Anti Corruption Branch (ACB), Jabalpur (2003-04), (2) S.P. (HQrs), CBI, HO, New Delhi (2004-06), (3) S.P., Special Crimes Region (SCR)-III, CBI, New Delhi (2005-06), (4) S.P., Anti Corruption Unit (ACU)-II, CBI, New Delhi (2006-08) and (5) DIG, Economic Offences (E.O.)-II, CBI, New Delhi (2008-2010). On the occasion of the Republic Day, 2009, Shri Singh was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. On repatriation to Tripura, from Central deputation in October, 2010, he was posted as Dy. Inspector General of Police (HQr), Tripura and functioned in the post upto 31st March, 2011. During his tenure as DIG, he also functioned as I/C PHQ Election Cell for Village Committee Election, 2011. He was promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police and posted as IGP (Training) on 1st April, 2011. During his service, he has attended Foreign Courses like – (1) Seminar on “Human Trafficking” in June, 2006 at Canberra, Australia, (2) Workshop on Cocaine related crimes in Asia with involvement of West African Drug Criminal Groups in May, 2008 at Bangkok, Thailand and (3) Mid Career Training Programme –Phase-IV- Cambridge University, United Kingdom (UK) in January, 2011. SHRI BIMAL KANTI RAY, IPS, THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ( AP & OPS) Shri B. K. Ray, TPS Gr. I was appointed as Indian Police Service (SPS) in the Manipur Tripura cadre in the year 1993. After his induction in the Indian Police Service he held the posts as SP (Dhalai), SP (OPS), SP (South), SP (Procurement) & also as AIG (OPS) and AIG (HQ). Shri Ray was promoted as DIG and was posted as DIG (HQ), DIG (Northern Range) and also DIG (Southern Range). He served in Kosovo as a member of the UN Peace Keeping Force. Now Shri Ray is posted as IGP (AP & OPS). He was awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the eve of Independence Day, 2000, UN Peace Keeping Medal in 2001 and Antrik Surakhsa Seva Padak in 2002. SHRI NEPAL CHANDRA DAS, IPS, THE DY. INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ( HOME GUARDS) Shri Nepal Chandra Das, BA, born in 1955, joined the State Police Service as a direct Dy. SP on 18-09-1983. After basic training in Barrackpur, West Bengal, and probation in the state, he was posted as SDPO Udaipur, South Tripura w.e.f October, 1985 to March 1988. He worked as Addl. SP (Urban)/(Rural) West Tripura District, ADC to Governor, Commandant (Provisioning) and SP (Operation). He was promoted to IPS on 06-04-99 with seniority of 1994. He was posted as SP (Dhalai) in Dhalai District on 04-09-99, he was posted as SP (North) at Kailashahar on 13-10-99. He was also posted as Commandant, Home Guards, SP (CID). He was promoted to DIG of Police w.e.f 01-01-08 and Posted as DIG Home Guards. In recognition of his outstanding service he received DGPs Commendation Disc in 2007 and the Police Medal for meritorious service on the occasion of Republic Day, 2008. Courses attended by him in recent years. 1. Economic Offences, under CBI at Gaziabad 2. Criminal Justice system, under NPA at Hyderabad 3. Image building on Behavioral pattern of Police, under ASCI at Hyderabad. SHRI P RASTOGI, IPS, THE DY. INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (RANGE) Shri Puneet Rastogi joined in the Indian Police Service in the MT Cadre in the year 1995. He was initially appointed as ASP, South and later posted as SDPO, Kanchanpur in the year 1997. Subsequently he held the post of Addl. SP (Urban) in 1999, SP, North in 2000, SP, South in 2001 and SP (SB) in the year 2003. In the year 2004 he went on deputation to Govt. of India, and joined as Joint Director (Investigation) in the Serious Fraud Investigation Office under Ministry of Corporate Affairs, New Delhi. On promotion he continued in the same post in the year 2009. In the year 2010 on his repatriation from Central deputation he was posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Northern Range and later in the month of June, 2010 he joined as Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID) in addition to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Northern Range. Now Shri Rastogi is posted as DIGP (Range). He was awarded DGP’s Commendation Disc in the year 2000. SHRI SMARAJIT KANUNGOE, IPS THE ASSISTANT INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (OPS) Shri S. Kanungoe joined Tripura Police Service on 14th Aug. 1985 and was appointed as Indian Police Service (SPS) in the Manipur Tripura cadre in the year 2010.. After initial training at North Eastern Police Academy, Barapani, Shillong, Shri Kanungoe was temporarily posted as SDPO, Sonamura in 1987. Thereafter, he was posted as SDPO, Sabroom in 1988. Sri Kanungoe also served in PTC, TFPF, as Asstt.Commandant. In Aug. 1997 he was promoted to TPS Gr.I and posted as SP (Enforcement Branch) in 1998. He was also posted as Commandant SAF, SP (Communication) and SP (Security). In Jan. 2005 he was posted as Commandant 4th Bn. TSR, Kumarghat. In July, 2010 Shri Kanungoe was posted to PHQ as AIGP (Ops). Shri Kanungoe was awarded Indian Police Medal for meritorious Service in the year 2009. SHRI ARINDAM NATH, THE ASSISTANT INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (HQs) Sri Arindam Nath, TPS joined Tripura Police on 20-04-1990. While undergoing basic training at NEPA, Shillong, he stood first in Law & was awarded trophy during 1991. On successful completion of probation period he was posted as SDPO Udaipur, in July 1992. He was promoted to Addl. SP in October 1998 and to TPS Grade-I in December 2002. Apart from SDPO Udaipur he has served various capacities like Dy. SP (Central), Addl. SP (OPS) South, Addl. SP (Rural), West, Commandant 5th BN TSR and SP (Dhalai) district. He is presently posted as AIG (HQs) from April 2007. He is extremely successful Police Officer in the field & in office as well. He led many successful encounters against extremist leading to death of extremist recovery of sophisticated weapons and other incriminating articles. While he was posted as SP (Dhalai) district in the year August 2005, 21 NLFT extremists surrendered with 13 numbers of sophisticated weapons, huge quantity of ammunitions and grenades. His Courageous anti-extremist work fetched him DGP's Commendation Disk on the occasion of Police Week 2000. |
